What is involved in a session?

An initial assessment is carried out where the horse is examined whilst standing, followed by assessments in hand at both walk and trot. This allows observations on gait and conformation to be made.

Details are taken of the horse's history and daily routine. Training details and any specific care issues are discussed.

A full session involves different massage techniques, stretches and relaxation moves and will normally last an hour and a half. Following the massage session you will receive a full written report on my findings, together with recommendations for aftercare and any appropriate excercises.

When will I notice an improvement?

Each case is individual, there may be an immediate improvement, in other cases it may take a few sessions to see an improvement.

Can I ride my horse after a session?

Follow-up excercise should enhance the effects of a Sports Massage. In most cases a healthy, sound horse can be ridden straight after a session.

How often should my horse be massaged?

This depends on several factors. A normal, healthy horse with an average workload can be treated about once a month. Performance horses with a heavy training schedule can be treated more regularly - helping you to assess your training impact and enabling any subtle issues to be quickly identified.

Does my horse have to be clean before you can work with him?

Just remove any mud and ensure the horse is dry. No need to go for the full shampoo & set!

My horse is healthy, do I need my vet to check him before a massage?

Veterinary permission must be given before a massage. If your horse is healthy and sound it should not be necessary to have him examined before a session. In most cases a phone call is all that is required.
